2024 5th GRADE SCIENCE CAMP

Paden Elementary’s 5th grade class will be attending science camp at YMCA Camp Campbell in the Santa Cruz Mountains from May 14-17, 2024.

It’s an extraordinary opportunity to experience learning outside the classroom. 5th graders have attended science camp for many years, and it’s a highlight of the Paden experience!

What’s special about science camp?

“Education comes to life at our Camp Campbell Outdoor Science School … students experience the thrills of nature through hands-on lessons and activities.

We foster a love for nature and the outdoors, and the development of attitudes and practices that build character and awareness for the environment—all amidst the fun of campfires, songs, and meaningful relationships.”

– Camp Campbell

Why is outdoor education important?

Outdoor education builds on what the kids are already learning in the classroom.

  • It allows learners to get hands-on with all their senses in the unique ecosystem around them

  • Hug trees! Hear birds! Experience native plants, weather and wildlife up-close!

What will they learn?

Camp curriculum is centered around core concepts like adaptation, interdependence, cycles/changes, community, ecological responsibility, and conservation. Check out the camp’s programming page for details.
